When people think of Barcelona, they think of Gaudi; when people think of Gaudi, they think of Barcelona. There is a reason that these two are so deeply connected. Gaudi's architectural style is different from anyone before and anyone following his era. His unique blend of architectural inspirations has led Gaudi to be a truly unique architect.
Gaudi's work has gone through different stages. His work started with a Moorish style, then to an emulated Gothic style into a naturalist and expressionist style. When Gaudi fully developed his style, it had a very organic synthesis. Gaudi was inspired by nature and the beauty around him. His organic style differentiates Gaudi from other architects because no one can infuse nature into an architectural creation as Gaudi can. Every detail ties in something new, leaving every project truly unique.
Barcelona hosts Gaudi's greatest masterpieces. There is Parc Guell, a garden complex that sits on the hill of El Carmel looking over Barcelona. This park is infused with color through Gaudi's architecture combined with the use of nature's pure beauty. Two of Gaudi's most famous buildings, Cassa Mila and Casa Battlo, are located on Passeig de Gracia and represent his unique design eye. Gaudi's most renowned creation is the Sagrada Familia.
Gaudi had continuous projects all around Barcelona and throughout Cataluna, but from 1915 he almost entirely devoted himself to the Sagrada Familia until he died in 1926. Each part of the church is dedicated to a religious theme that, in its entirety, tells the story of Christ. Gaudi's devotion to the Sagrada Familia is unmistakable when viewing the church. His exceptional eye for art, life, and culture shines through his work of art.
Gaudi's creations represent life; they tell a story and are unique to everything else in this world. Gaudi brought unmatched culture to Barcelona, and his works of art cannot be missed when visiting Barcelona.
